Self Assessment
If you have the confidence and knowledge to identify the various hazards and people at risk and then decide on the measures necessary to reach and maintain an adequate level of safety there is no reason why you should not carry out your own assessment(s).

In fact, the opinion of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is that all risk assessments are best carried out by people who know their business, by people who know the way the business is run and by people who are intimate with the manufacturing or processes that take place. That can only be someone (or some people) who has been employed in the workplace for some time.  The difficulty comes with matching that knowledge and experience with the knowledge and experience necessary to produce a meaningful risk assessment.

If you feel that you have the confidence and knowledge to carry out the task given the size and complexity of your premises then we have prepared specific fire and health and safety self assessment packages for you. They comprises of electronic risk assessment templates with easy to use guidance documents and come complete with Safety Log Books for you to record significant activities.

    Important Information

Kelburn Risk Management would like to point out that the self-assessment Risk Assessment templates, Guidance documents and Safety Log Books, henceforth referred to as the self-assessment package(s) are intended to assist the Responsible Person and/or their Representative, in meeting both their own requirements and their legal obligations under the relevant legislative guidance but do not in themselves ensure or confirm compliance.

The Risk Assessment(s) endeavours to allow for the identification of hazards, risks and control measures associated with a premises/building, and to identify the Significant Findings and the Relevant Persons at risk from them. The Responsible Person and/or their Representative should ensure that this is achieved. It should be noted that it is the responsibility of the Responsible Person and/or their Representative to implement any required actions identified by the Risk Assessment(s).

Kelburn Risk Management accepts no responsibility for how the Risk Assessment Templates, Guidance Documents and Log Books are utilised or for any added content or findings.

The Responsible Person and/or their Representative should note that nothing within the Risk Assessment(s) overrides any requirements needed to comply with statutory obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 and all associated Regulations and approved codes of practice. The duly completed Risk Assessment(s) do not override, where appropriate, the application requirements for Building Control, Local Authority, Licensing and any other consent.

The Risk Assessment(s) are a continuous, live process and must be monitored and audited, reviewed and revised following any structural and material changes to the premises/building, the usage of, and any changes to processes carried out, the introduction of additional hazards or processes. The Risk Assessment(s) should be reviewed with any significant changes to staff and occupancy, and following any "near miss" or incidence of note. Any change could lead to new hazards and risks needing to be considered and no liability rests with Kelburn Risk Management in this respect. Notwithstanding, the Risk Assessment(s) should be programmed for review at intervals not exceeding twelve months.

As stated before, competency to carry out the complete Risk Assessment process is an assessment in itself and if, after you have purchased the self-assessment template(s) and guidance documentation, you subsequently decide against it, the cost of this will be deducted from the total price of a complete Risk Assessment(s) from Kelburn Risk Management should you decide to ask us to act on your behalf within thirty days of the initial order.
